Reframe Aging
My mother told me years ago, “Getting old is not for sissies” And that is true!!
Remember that we are holistic and beautiful creations of God, no two alike. One thing that we all do have in common, is that, like it or not we will all age. As time goes on we might try hard to maintain a youthful version of our older self. Invariably, the years will accumulate one day at a time. Some of the affects of aging are:
- Decrease in strength, gait and balance. Poor eyesight
- Diagnosis shock, memory deficits, chronic pain
- Life transitions such as empty nest syndrome, loss of loved ones and pets, loneliness
- Being a caretaker, or needing one yourself. Asking for help, loss of independence
- Increase in worry and anxiety
- Carrying unresolved issues; grief, resentment, guilt
- Questions about the after-life. How is my relationship with God. Are my things in order.
Perception, or how you see things related to your aging, depends very much on how you cared for yourself, but even more importantly, what beliefs are running your show.
I have been a psychiatric nurse for over thirty years, and the past twenty, applying a variety of holistic modalities I accrued over a 7 year period of intense studying. My all time favorite is the tapping, or EFT which stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. To get good effects from tapping that you can readily feel require two things. The first is learning where and how to tap on meridian end points in the body, and tapping those points combined with digging down into your beliefs and rooting out the ones that are no longer serving you. Since 2006 I have been helping others both in and outside of a hospital setting, using EFT. It’s a great easy safe tool, but like any other tool, you need to know how to use it.
So pick up a class. Or call me if you would prefer 1 on 1 sessions. EFT is portable. All you need are your two fingers, and your words!
